The theme of "Contrast" lead my team of 2 to come up with the idea of hopping between shadows to avoid an all-seeing eye. We completed the game in 32 hours and Won out of 52 submissions!
My Responsibilities
- Level design: designing and meshing short levels that focus on creating pathways with moving shadows; furthering narrative while staying novel.
- Level scripting/features: creating and implementing objects to use in furthering level progression (collectibles, level end conditions).
- Player movement: coding a satisfying movement system, considering aspects like air control, jump height and dash distance.
- Audio implementation: Sourcing music and sound effects that add to the player experience and support the atmosphere.
Design Rationale
The theme of "contrast" immediately took me to light and shadow, and I was inspired by SCHiM's method of jumping between shadows. My teammate then suggested the idea of hiding from something, leading to the idea of the player hiding from the gaze of the evil Eye.
Due to the short jam length, we prioritised simple mechanics, meaning more time could be put into the polish and gameplay feel.
